It's been a while since I've published a short story online showcasing my writing style and storytelling. (Over one year? REALLY?!) There's a good explanation for this, too: most of the short stories I've written since Birth of the Nightmare have been either rewrites of older stories (i.e. I've completely overhauled Birth of the Nightmare) or more Mad Mummy short fictions. I've been reluctant to publish anything new/revised since the first Birth of the Nightmare draft because my plan is to ultimately collect these Mad Mummy short fictions and some tie-in poetry I've written into an anthology for printed publication and sale alongside my yet-to-be published comic book. How am I supposed to profit off of my works if I keep publishing them online for all to read for free, ya' know?

I've been trying my best to be good, but I feel like people may judge my writing unfairly with my older works. (I dread to think about how people would take me at face value based solely on my fan fictions…UGH!) To amend this, I've decided to push out a freebie every now and then as a sort of "State of the Writer," just to let you know that yes, I'm still alive and writing, and this is how far I've come. Now, this may be the only Mad Mummy short fiction among the freebies I'll be pushing out; other stories may be completely unrelated from my comic book universe, but they will still be good representations on the kinds of writing and stories you can expect from yours truly. Also, I can't help but flaunt my shit. I'm vain like that.

So enjoy Fireside Fable, the newest addition to my growing list of Mad Mummy short fictions. Yes, this does take place at some point in New Earth's timeline, but there is no Mad Mummy in this story. As with all of my short fiction accompaniments, Fireside Fable tells the story of a character/characters whom will show up at some point in the main Mad Mummy comic book series. For our characters, Abel and Church, it may be a long while before it's revealed what parts they play in The Mad Mummy.

All characters are from The Mad Mummy, which is my own copyrighted property.
